Lengleng
Winery Proprietor at Chateau Chanson
Chateau Chanson takes its name from the founder’s dual passion for wine and classical music. Since stepping up to take the helm of the family business, Lengleng has infused the estate with the Dionysian spirit of dance, weaving bold creativity into elegant, restrained traditions.

Q: If you had to describe yourself as a wine, what would you be?
A: I’d have to say Chardonnay. It’s an incredibly versatile grape. Depending on the environment and terroir, it can taste completely different—it can be bold and expressive, or lean and crisp. That’s very much like me. I easily absorb the influences of the environments, cities, and friends around me, and I can change quite a bit through different stages of my life.

Q: What kind of lifestyle does wine represent for you?
A: I think drinking wine should be effortless. Ideally, it should be as casual and everyday as grabbing a coffee. It should just be about feeling thirsty, wanting a glass, and toasting with friends anytime, anywhere—just a pure, simple pleasure.

Q: Could you share what a typical day looks like for the young owner of a winery?
A: I’m currently based in Shanghai, so my communication with the estate is mostly online. My day-to-day involves connecting with F&B clients and distributors, tracking sales, and gathering feedback. Feedback often gives me fresh perspectives that I might otherwise miss when designing new products. Outside of work, I love exploring new restaurants and bars. Partly because I just love good food and drinks, but it also helps me stay tuned to market trends and shifting preferences.

Q: If you weren’t running a winery, what would you most want to do?
A: A writer. I actually majored in English literature. Literature has saved, comforted, and inspired me countless times, and writing remains my most vital creative outlet. I firmly believe that the power of words to build worlds and touch hearts is irreplaceable by any other medium. As an idealist, I hope that one day my writing can help create a better world, even on a micro-level. If I didn't have to work, I’d just move to a house by the sea, eat bread, drink wine, and write novels every day.
Q: Where do you draw your creative inspiration from?
A: Traveling, reading, and talking—a lot—with friends. I really enjoy deep talks. As an adult, these long conversations always give me new perspectives. They allow me to look back and chew on the details of my past that I hadn't really thought about before. It’s almost like reliving my life and finding the sparkling moments hidden within it.

Q: What do you usually do on the sofa?
A: Play with my cats and dogs, cuddle with my partner, and breathe in the scent of sun-warmed blankets.
