Liz
Designer & Creative Director of studiososlow
studiososlow is a utopia for Liz and Yuchen. Here, Liz dictates her own time zone against the outside world, slowly bringing her dreams into reality. While their work is often seen as cute and comforting, Liz herself presents quite a contrast: she is serious, humorous, and possesses a kind of eccentric earnestness.

Q: What does "slow" mean to you? How does it manifest in your work and life?
A: "Slow" isn't about being inefficient. It's about repeatedly refining something, trusting time to distill a better result. For our designs, it's about taking the time to truly feel how objects impact us in daily life, and finding the right balance of lines and structures as we bring those feelings into physical form. In our personal lives, too, we willingly slow down—to walk, to breathe, and to genuinely observe whatever crosses our path.

Q: In the early days, people often described your work as comforting, soft-edged, and cute. How has studiososlow evolved since then?
A: Rather than focusing on that "comforting" aspect, we are now much more interested in exploring the intrinsic relationships within objects. We’ve shifted from rounded forms toward more planar compositions. The goal now is to use the simplest possible structures to highlight proportion, materiality, and color.

Q: Your slogan mentions "designing the useful or the useless." How do you distinguish between the two?
A: An object can actually be both at the same time. When you are simply looking at it, it exists as a pure object; the moment you engage with it, it becomes a tool. The "useful" and the "useless" are just two sides of the same coin.

Q: Do you have any specific creative rituals? A certain time of day, or particular music?
A: While working, we love listening to electronic music that pulls us into a state of deep focus. Music with an inherent sense of order is incredibly inspiring to us.

Q: What do you usually do on the sofa?
A: Play with the dog, listen to music, or completely empty my mind.
